Chris Van Dyne

Sales & Marketing Professional

I’ve had a successful career in sales, but believe my analytical problem solving potential hasn’t been fully unleashed.  Seeking a client facing, consultative role in the digital marketing space.

Skills

These are my most valuable skills I believe can be applied professionally

Sales

In my 17 year career at the A's, I was rarely outside the top 3 producers in a 30 person sales department

Customer Service

It was my responsibility to sell and service most of my accounts at The A's. As my book of business grew, service became a bigger part of my job

Search Engine Optimization

I've managed to get my website to 8,000 monthly visitors, 5,500 of which are via organic search

Copywriting

90% of the keyword research and corresponding copy on homeandgardentalk.com was written by me

How I Achieved My Skills

Positions Held:

  • Founder
  • SEO Director
  • Chief Copywriter
  • Content Manager
  • Web Designer

I decided that Covid downtime was a great opportunity to learn a new skill.   I was very drawn to website development and SEO.

I enjoyed applying the analytical side of me that was being under-utilized in sales.  I also loved the detective work that goes into understanding what drives content to the top of the search results page.

I learned to use tools like Google Analytics, SEMrush, and Jasper to help get around 80 articles up on my website, generating $500 per month in affiliate commissions and ad revenue, plus over 8,000 visitors per month.

Oakland A's Baseball

Positions Held:

  • Inside Sales Representative
  • Account Manager
  • Senior Account Manager
  • Manager, Premium Seating & New Ballpark Sales

Though I never really saw myself as a salesperson, I managed to thrive in the role, earning the department MVP award in 2015, 2017, and 2019.

In the 30 person sales department I was always in the top 3 in total revenue.  This earned me a spot on the new ballpark sales team where I was responsible for pitching 10 year suite leases in the proposed new ballpark to C-level executives

Cosmic Pie Pizza

Positions Held:

  • Founder
  • Chief Marketing Officer
  • Head Chef
  • Chief Compliance Officer
  • CFO

In 2017, while still working for The A’s, I decided to start selling pizza at a local farmer’s market.   It was a bit much, especially for my wife who was helping me.  So we set it down after a year.

When Covid hit and my responsibilities at The A’s were no longer needed,   I decided this might be a good time to see what pizza was like full time.   I set up next to a brewery in Santa Cruz, CA for about 6 months and did $60,000 in sales during that time.

I continued it when we moved to Santa Fe, NM, operating out of a coffee shop after it closed.  I ran all the social media, website management, menu creation, and compliance.

Positions Held:

  • Client Operations Associate
  • Trading Associate

This was my first job out of college.  I started out doing back office administrative work for this rapidly growing money manager in Woodside, CA.  After expressing my desire to learn more about the analytical side of the business, was promoted to the trading department, performing technical & operational duties for the firm’s portfolio management system.
